A man had threatened to blow up his ex-lover unit after breaking into her home. In the process, the man even tied up the woman, her daughters and her maid.
The man was sentenced to 5 years and 9 months of jail with 6 strokes of the cane on the 13 Jul 2020. He pleaded guilty to 1 charge each of housebreaking and wrongful confinement, and 2 charges of criminal intimidation.
The incident happened on 16 Mar 2019 at 2.30 AM. The man broke into the unit after he managed to get hold of the keys that were hanging on the wall through a gap in the unit front gate.
After entering the unit, the man went straight into the bedroom where the woman’s daughter is sleeping. When the maid enters the bedroom, he pushed her against the wardrobe injuring her.
The man then tied them up before moving them into the maid’s room. He then took a gas cylinder from the kitchen and bring it into the maid’s room.
After the woman returned home, the man held a knife by her neck and told her not to do anything stupid or he will blow up her home. He then tied up the woman and place her in her own bedroom where he placed another gas cylinder.
The man confronted her about a debt that she allegedly owed him and about a male friend she was messaging.
In the process, the woman had sex with the man in fear of getting hurt. The woman managed to convince the man to untie her children and maid later in the morning. The woman then managed to get help after she told her maid to get in contact with her ex-husband, which led to his arrest.
