A man was accused of taking photos of female commuters without their consent at Pasir Ris MRT Station. This unsettling event unfolded on Friday, September 8th, and has since garnered attention on social media platforms.
The Alleged Incident
The incident came to light when a TikTok user with the handle @hiipeople01 shared a brief video clip that purportedly captured the man in the act.
In the video, the individual, dressed in a light blue T-shirt, was seen descending a flight of stairs at Pasir Ris MRT station.
During this descent, he appeared to be discreetly recording footage of a lady ahead of him using his phone. This unsettling behavior continued for approximately five seconds before the man nonchalantly stowed his phone away in his pockets.
Onboard the Train
According to the TikTok user, the alleged incident didn’t start at the MRT station but began earlier on the train. The lady who later became the alleged victim claimed that she was in the same train carriage as the man. She asserted that she caught him red-handed, surreptitiously taking a photo of her.
The TikTok user recounted that the man’s actions raised suspicion. She noticed him holding his phone in an “unnatural” manner before using it normally. This behavior, understandably, left her feeling uneasy and prompted her to keep a watchful eye on the man.
Confrontation at the MRT Station
Upon arriving at Pasir Ris MRT Station, the situation escalated. The lady who had been observing the man decided to follow him as he disembarked. It was during this time that she allegedly witnessed him taking a photo of another lady as she descended the stairs.
Taking immediate action, the TikTok user decided to report the incident at the service counter. SMRT staff was alerted, and they confronted the man, requesting that he hand over his phone for inspection.
Discovery on the Phone
Upon examining the man’s phone, SMRT staff made a disconcerting discovery. They found “many pictures of different women” on his device.
Despite being confronted by the staff and requested to apologize, the man’s apology was deemed “insincere” by the lady who initiated the complaint.
Here is what she said
On 8 September 2023 at 1.15pm in pasir ris MRT station, I caught this uncle taking a picture of a lady infront of us.
Prior to this(around 1.10pm),I thought he took a picture of me while I was in the MRT with him in the same carriage, as he put his phone up facing me (unnaturally) and then used his phone normally after that.
I was suspicious of him afterwards. After alighting, I saw him being more suspicious and was following a lady.
Then I followed him and caught him taking a picture of her while we were walking down the stairs. After that, I went to the SMRT passenger service counter and told them what happened.
They then confronted the uncle and asked him to show them his phone . He obliged and they saw that he had MANY pictures of different women. They asked him to apologise to me which he did (insincerely).
I would just like to urge everyone to be more vigilant especially people living in the east side.
I would like to thank the SMRT staff for being so quick to help confront him.
Please help to share this.
Thank you.
