The victim, identified as Tan, had gone to visit his girlfriend in the early hours of 22 August. After arriving at around 3.30am, he tried to call her but received no response. Determined to reach her, he made his way up to the 20th floor, where she lived, and attempted to climb into her unit from the outside.

Sadly, he lost his footing during the risky climb and fell all the way down. His body was discovered at about 10.45am at the foot of the building. Police confirmed that he sustained fatal head injuries from the fall.

Police Rule Out Foul Play

Cheras police chief confirmed that preliminary investigations did not suggest any foul play. The case has been classified as a sudden death. Tan’s remains were sent for a post-mortem before being repatriated to his hometown in Meru, Perak, on 23 August.

The tragedy has left family and friends in shock, as many questioned why he chose such a dangerous route instead of waiting or seeking safer options. His actions highlight the deadly risks of high-rise stunts, even when carried out with good intentions.

Risks of High-Rise Recklessness

This incident is not the first of its kind. Across Asia, there have been multiple reports of people attempting dangerous stunts or risky climbs at high-rise apartments, often ending in fatal accidents. In Tan’s case, what may have been intended as a romantic gesture turned into a devastating loss.

Safety experts have repeatedly warned that no relationship gesture or attempt at thrill-seeking is worth gambling with one’s life, especially in urban areas where most residences are built dozens of storeys high.
