I’ve been suspecting for the longest time that they are hiring phantom workers to fluff up our local headcount so they can hire more foreign workers under the quota. Typical shade, right?
So I thought, okay la, let’s be a good citizen and report this lobang. I go to MOM website, navigate all the way to the reporting page. Right there at the top, big bold words: “You can make a report on possible Employment Act violations. Your identity will be kept strictly confidential.”
I was like, okay steady, ready to drop the deets, name names, and upload the evidence.
Then boom: “Log in with Singpass to proceed.”
The moment I saw that red Singpass logo, I instantly U-turn liao. Close tab, clear cache, almost wanted to throw my phone across the room.
EH MOM, ARE YOU KIDDING ME OR WHAT?
If it’s really that confidential, why on earth do you need me to sign in using the one digital ID in Singapore that links to my IC, my face, my home address, my CPF, and probably my primary school PSLE results?!
They say “strictly confidential,” but come on la. We live in Singapore. We all know how system work. The moment your NRIC is tagged to an official investigation report, it’s inside the government database forever. What happens if the company owner get wind of it? What if someone inside MOM accidentally leaks the informant details during audit? Or worse, what if MOM calls the boss and says, “We received a report from one of your staff…” and suddenly my direct supervisor starts giving me all the sai-kang until I resign?
Singapore HR circle very small one, you know? You get blacklisted in one sector, good luck finding your next job.
I bet my last dollar there are THOUSANDS of employees out there who stumbled upon genuine illegal stuff—phantom workers, illegal wage clawbacks, fake CPF contributions—and wanted to do the right thing. But the exact millisecond they hit that Singpass barrier, 90% of them just back out.
Why cannot just have a pure, anonymous whistleblowing portal? Just let us upload PDFs, screenshots, and type the details without linking our actual NRIC. If the evidence is solid, go investigate lor! Why must collect my identity first?
Anyone else felt like doing the civic-minded thing only to get cockblocked by Singpass? Or am I just being super paranoid?
