In a startling incident that unfolded at the intersection of Yuan Ching Road and Boon Lay Way on Sunday evening, a fit of rage resulted in a taxi driver and his seven-year-old son being injured.
The alleged assailant, frustrated by his inability to board a private bus, took out his anger on an unsuspecting taxi, leaving shattered glass and trauma in his wake, according to Shin Min Daily News.
The Unprovoked Attack
Around 7:20 pm on December 10th, a man unleashed his anger on a passing taxi, yanking the door handle and hurling a rock at the vehicle’s rear windscreen.
The attack, reportedly triggered by the man’s failed attempt to board a private bus, had severe consequences for the taxi driver and his young son.
The 59-year-old taxi driver, identified as Chen, and his seven-year-old son suffered injuries from the shattered windscreen. Both victims were promptly taken to the hospital for medical attention.
The Unfortunate Encounter
Chen, the taxi driver, shared his account of the unexpected assault, revealing that he was taking his son out for dinner on that fateful Sunday night.
Before turning into Boon Lay Avenue, Chen witnessed a man in his 50s or 60s dressed in a security guard uniform attempting to flag down a private bus. Despite his efforts, the bus drove past, leading to a confrontation.
The Act of Aggression
Chen, sensing the man’s attempt to flag him down, gestured that his taxi was not available for passengers. Ignoring the signal, the enraged man forcefully yanked the taxi door and launched an object at the windscreen.
The impact resulted in a loud noise, and Chen realized that the taxi’s rear windshield was shattered. Both father and son were left in shock as the assailant swiftly fled the scene.
Emergency Response
Chen promptly contacted the police, who, along with an ambulance, arrived at the scene. The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) confirmed that they received a call for assistance and conveyed both victims to the National University Hospital.
Though both Chen and his son sustained cuts from glass fragments, Chen expressed gratitude that the rock did not hit his son directly. While not seriously injured, the father and son deemed themselves “really unlucky” in the aftermath of the shocking attack.
Seeking Answers
Chen, understandably perplexed, questioned why they were targeted in such a violent manner. Investigations are currently underway as the police seek to unravel the motives behind the incident.
In the face of road rage turning a routine evening outing into a traumatic experience, the incident serves as a reminder of the unpredictability that can unfold on the streets, leaving victims grappling with both physical and emotional repercussions.
