A man claimed to be from Shin Min Daily News food reporter cheated of $500 in cash from hawker at the Pek Kio Market and Food Centre. He had apparently sold the hawker promotion bundles to guarantee the stall gets highlighted in the newspaper.
The hawker, recognised as Mrs Chen, and Shin Min Daily News have then made police lodge towards the man. The event occurred to the Pek Kio Seafood Delights stall last Monday, when a man with curly hair and a black top came by her stall last Monday.
Claiming to be a food reporter from the paper, he wanted to sell her promotion bundles. He said that he was well-known and that he often performed on food shows.
However, when pushed for documentation he altered the topic, and swiftly said that he had talk to 170 other seafood white beehoon stalls in Singapore and that her stall had been nominated from the list.
He also told her to cook three dishes for the following day and said he would come back with two other reporters for the meeting. However, he came back alone the next day with a baggage and haversack, said Mrs Chen, and started endorsing cooking credentials and promotional in newspapers, journals and online.
As the hawker said it was too expensive for the initial price of $2,900 they settled on $500 and the cert will be valid for 3 months only. The moment the $500 was paid the man became unable to reached.Police have confirmed receiving the report against the conman, and investigations are currently ongoing.
