MAN WHO GAVE ILLEGAL PAID RIDE TO LTA OFFICERS DURING CIRCUIT BREAKER, JAILED

Ng Chiang Huat, 54-years-old was sentenced to 3 days jail on 12 March, for giving an illegal paid rude during 2020’s Circuit Breaker, to 2 passengers who turned out to be LTA officers.

Ng was also disqualified from driving all classes of vehicles for a year.

He was caught after the two passengers that he picked up turned out fo be LTA officers.

Ng pleaded guilty to one count of using his car as a public service vehicle without a proper license, as well as one offenced under the Covid-19 (Temporary Measures) Act.

At the time of the offences, Ng was working as a sales representative at a wholesale trading firm.

He was also a member of the Covid-19 Lockdown SGHitch chat group on Telegram.

Ng posted a message in the group: “Driver looking for pax”, to which a prospective passenger named Decha responded to his post and at about 9.56am, Ng accepted the carpool request and ferried Decha from Choa Chu kang to Plaza Singapura for $12.

A man and woman, later boarded Ng’s car at about 10.20am, and the two turned out to be LTA officers.

25 minutes later, Ng was stopped by an LTA officer at Handy Road and when he was questioned, claimed that the two passengers in his car were his relatives.

So the officer asked him for their names and Ng was unable to provide their exact names.

He then revealed that he was ferrying the two for a fare.
