A man who illegally chopped down a tree at a HDB estate in Tampines Street 62, is being wanted by the Tampines Town Council, according to The Straits Times.
He had chopped down the tree at a new Build-To-Order (BTO) project there, and the town council have since put up notices appealing to witnesses or people with information to step forward.
Photos of the man in action were also seen on the notices, where he appears to be holding a chopper to the young trees in the new neighbourhood.
A spokesperson for Tampines Town Council said that the incident happened near Block 648C Tampines Street 6, and they were informed of it on 23 August.
The Town Council is also working with HDB to investigate the matter and are seeking the assistance of residents to identify the person responsible.
A police report has also been lodged.
MP Baey Yam Keng’s Facebook statement
I have received feedback over two occasions from a resident that plants/saplings in Tampines GreenDew have been chopped.
I verified from the residents’ Telegram chat group that this person appeared to be living in the area. In fact, the town council managed to get a photo of the person in action but could not identify him.
I asked the town council to put up notices to remind residents that such actions are illegal and to ask for information about this person. However, I understand that the notices were removed by unknown persons.
Such landscaping serves to beautify the estate and enhance greenery. The public should not remove or damage the plants.
It is an offence under Tampines Town Council’s by-laws to damage, cut or remove plants, shrubs or trees in common areas. Those found guilty of breaching a town council’s by-laws can be fined up to $5,000.
