A resident in Yishun was called out by minister K Shanmugam for being unreasonable during a meet-the-people session with MP Derrick Goh.
He had made a number of demands, including the construction of a covered walkway from the shopping mall nearby to his block.
The man has since apologised for his behaviour.
Nee Soon GRC MP Derrick Goh spoke to Shin Min Daily News and said that this was the first time he faced an incident like this since he became an MP 2 years ago.
Goh said that he was having a meet-the-people session and chatting with stallholders at the time, when volunteers started fearing for his safety because of the Yishun resident, Paul.
Paul then left 30 minutes after making a scene.
Goh said that Paul is a middle-aged man who has received help by them a few times, and some of his previous complaints have been resolved.
He added that Paul’s behaviour was shocking, with one volunteer even sharing that she felt sad and hurt by Paul’s behaviour.
Paul had apparently gotten his shoes wet due to the rain and wanted a covered walkway to be built from his home at Melody Spring@Yishun to the N4 shopping mall.
Goh said that when the bus stop in the vicinity was built, covered walkways were built to link the blocks in the estate, which the residents can use to avoid being drenched by the rain.
Goh then added that Paul has since apologised to him in a letter, which the former has since accepted and invited him to the next meet the people session.
He also said that his team will continue to be in touch with Paul to see how they can help him further.
