Hoon Jen Ken, 39-years-old, pleaded guilty to committing an act of mischief and was fined $2,000 on 8 July for scratching a Tesla model 3 that was parked at an open carpark.
Speaking during his mitigation plea, he said that it was a “mistake on his part” and that it was something “I shouldn’t have done”.
He also asked to be spared jail time, with the judge noting that he had paid for the repairs of the car that he vandalised.
He had apparently grown annoyed with the way the driver of the Tesla, a 36-year-old man, was driving his Tesla.
The owner later returned to his vehicle half an hour later and found the long scratch mark on his car, before watching his surveillance footage and saw Hoon vandalising his vehicle.
A police report was subsequently made at Clementi Neighbourhood Police Centre.
Background
A man was caught by the cameras of a Tesla vehicle for scratching up a Tesla that was parked at Clementi.
The incident happened on 6 March 2022 at around 1624 HRS at Blk 378 Clementi Avenue 5
He held on to a key on his right hand and scratched the right side of the car, before poking it again for good measure before fleeing the scene.
For Tesla Model 3, the car has a lot of cameras, so approaching the vehicle from any angle will be caught on tape. For surveillance purposes known as sentry mode, 8 cameras are recording. While there are actually more than 10 cameras on a Tesla for autopilot.
