A Facebook user, Dickens Cider, shared how he bought an item for $554 on Shopee and due to an issue with the seller, he requested for a refund and was allegedly told by Shopee that a manual refund would be performed for him.
He then went on to re-purchase the item, thinking that his $554 will be refunded to him, and paid another $509 for the same item (presumably from another seller).
However, he allegedly received an email from Shopee telling him that they cannot refund him, and they allegedly offered him a $20 cash voucher instead, as a “gesture of goodwill”.
Here is what he said
Shopee, My Order ID is 220623HW45SFD4, SGD 554.01 which I had a poor experience with the seller, hence, went to Shopee for a resolution and Shopee had advised that a manual refund will be done for me. Seeing the good news, I went on to re-purchase the item, spending another SGD 509 – Order ID 220625PV5N9JB8.
Days later, Shopee emailed me instead and told me that they cannot refund me.
How is this even allowed?! You promised me a refund, and when I spend more money, you tell me otherwise.
While exchanging more than 10 emails and replied by 5 different agents, who all don’t seem to read and investigate, none of them recognised the fact that Shopee initially agreed to refund me. All of them, instead, just keep repeating that no refund can be issued.
In the last email I got, still Shopee refuse to admit their mistake:
“Hence, kindly advise if you would accept a cash voucher of S$20.00 as a gesture of goodwill for the experience and to reduce the burden that you have encountered on our platform.”
So Shopee you know that $500 is a burden and who caused it? You’re right Shopee, you did!
Do you expect anyone to accept $20 voucher when it is your wrong advice and lack of information disclosed cost someone $500?!
This is ridiculous.
I want my money back Shopee and you need to honour your commitment!
