I have been single for some time now and, as I’m sure all single men will agree, I’m often asked why I’m not in a relationship.
I usually brush off the question with a joke or a generic answer, but I have to admit that I’ve given it a lot of thought lately.
After a lot of contemplation, I’ve come to the conclusion that the main reason why I am looking for a partner is to find someone to ‘mummy’ me.
Let me explain. I think most men, myself included, have an ingrained need to feel taken care of and looked after.
We may not always admit it, but deep down, many of us want someone in our lives who will give us that feeling of security and comfort.
We want someone who will listen to our problems, encourage us, and show us they care.
Of course, finding a girlfriend who is willing to take on this ‘mummy’ role is not easy. We can’t just go out and find someone who is willing to do this for us.
It takes a lot of time and effort to find the right person. We have to ensure that we’re compatible with the person we’re considering and that we can trust them to be there for us.
However, once we’ve found the right person, the rewards that come from having someone who can provide us with the care and comfort we crave are immense.
We’ll have someone to talk to about our fears, successes, and failures. We won’t feel so alone in the world and we’ll have someone to help us through life’s ups and downs.
We’ll have someone who will be there to encourage us when we’re feeling down and celebrate with us when we’re feeling on top of the world.
