I was out with a large group of friends and we were enjoying a few drinks and some good conversation. But as the night dragged on, I noticed something about the people around us in the pub.
All these YP Ah beng wannabes were all talking about money and gambling
A lot of them seemed to be young punks and ah beng wannabes. They were dressed in flashy clothes, talking about money and gambling.
It got me to think about what had happened to many of my friends and myself who had previously lent these YP ah bengs money before when they asked for a loan as they had gambled away all of their money and needed some money to pay their debts.
These YP ah bengs often engage in all sorts of gambling activities, be it visiting the casinos, playing on online platforms or even the previous illegal dice games in Geylang.
I realised that this seemed to be quite common mostly amongst all these YP ah bengs and they were getting themselves into serious trouble by gambling and borrowing money.
More often than rather, they end up gambling away their money and then running away when they couldn’t pay back the money they had borrowed from their friends to clear the debts.
My friends and I had known people like this and helped them before, but in the end also kena run by them
My friends and I had been victims of helping these YP ah bengs before, and the amount which we had lent to individuals from these group ranged from $2,000 to $10,000.
They would always promise us that they will pay up and then start to drag on the payment deadline from time to time, and then after a while they will suddenly be uncontactable and disappear from the surface of this earth with no means for their creditors to contact them at all.
At the end of the day, we are sharing our experience that we had before with this type of YP ah beng people and it is inevitable that everyone in life will come across someone like that.
The best that you can do is steer clear away from this kind of people and don’t even take pity on them or lend them any money.
