In the bustling world of food delivery services, the life of a delivery rider can be a challenging and demanding one. With long hours on the road, fluctuating pay, and the occasional difficult customer, it’s a profession that requires resilience and dedication.
However, one unfortunate McDonald’s delivery man recently encountered an extreme and unexpected job hurdle that no one could have foreseen.
The Fateful Day: A Collision with a Bus
On September 25th, a 38-year-old McDonald’s delivery rider was waiting at a traffic junction. He was making his usual rounds when he found himself stopped at a red light behind a car at the intersection of Sembawang Way and Canberra Road.
As he patiently waited for the light to turn green, a Bus 980, operated by Tower Transit Singapore (TTS), approached from behind.
The bus, for reasons yet unknown, did not brake in time. Instead, it collided with the unsuspecting delivery rider, forcefully knocking him off his motorcycle and sending him crashing into the rear of the car in front of him.
This shocking collision had immediate consequences, injuring three people in total, including an innocent infant. The collision was captured on video by a car’s rear-facing camera, which was later posted on the Facebook group SG Road Vigilante.
The Consequences and Accountability
Tower Transit Singapore (TTS) swiftly responded to the incident by suspending the 68-year-old bus driver, citing his fault in the accident. The company also promised to take further disciplinary action against him.
In addition to the suspension of the bus driver, TTS acknowledged that the accident had caused harm to multiple individuals.
The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) promptly provided medical attention to the driver of the car and an infant who was inside the bus at the time.
The McDonald’s delivery rider, thankfully, survived the collision, and after receiving treatment at Khoo Teck Puat Hospital, he was discharged. Fortunately, his injuries were not life-threatening.
A Promise of Support
In the aftermath of this unfortunate incident, Tower Transit Singapore (TTS) extended its heartfelt apology to all those affected by the collision.
The company also expressed its commitment to assisting with the medical claims of the injured parties, recognizing the importance of taking responsibility for the consequences of the accident.
