Tragedy struck on Saturday (26 August) as a McLaren supercar and a taxi collided on the Keppel viaduct, leaving a trail of destruction in its wake.
The collision took place along the Ayer Rajah Expressway (AYE) towards the Marina Coastal Expressway (MCE), and the Singapore Police Force and the Singapore Civil Defence (SCDF) were alerted to the accident at about 9.20 am.
The aftermath of the collision left the expressway covered in debris, as captured in footage shared on SG Road Vigilante and Singapore Road Accident’s Facebook pages. The images reveal a disarray of shattered car parts and the undeniable impact of the collision on the surrounding environment.
The McLaren supercar, known for its speed, bore the brunt of the collision’s force. The left side and front of the car were reduced to pieces, with doors flying off upon impact. The vehicle’s front end suffered extensive damage, rendering it unrecognizable.
Investigations suggest that the McLaren may have struck the viaduct’s sides before spinning multiple times and finally coming to a stop.
Skid marks on the road and barriers point to the intensity of the impact and the challenges faced by the driver in maintaining control of the vehicle.
In the vicinity, a red taxi was also caught in the collision. Fortunately, it appeared to have sustained lesser damage compared to the McLaren.
The taxi driver, a 56-year-old male, was conveyed to Raffles Hospital while remaining conscious. Contrastingly, the driver of the McLaren, a 41-year-old man, declined conveyance to the hospital.
Following the accident and destruction along the AYE, the driver of the McLaren is currently assisting the police with their investigations, which are underway.
