MEN CAUGHT CHEATING COVID-19 SUPPORT GRANT AND TEMPORARY RELIEF FUND

On Friday, 29 January 2021, two men were being charged in court. Two separate cases of cheating and forgery for government grants.

The first man aged 43 years-old was caught for allegedly trying to cheat the Ministry of Social and Family Development (MSF) to get the COVID-19 Support Grant (CSG). He has made a copy of a fake retrenchment letter and submitted the false information to MSF hoping for his CSG to be approved but, has been denied.

The second man aged 48 years-old was caught trying to cheat MSF into approving the application of the $500 Temporary Relief Fund (TRF) by giving false information stating that he lost 30% of his income.

Both men were charged with allegedly providing wrong information to the MSF for government grants.

According to the Singapore Police Force, anyone caught cheating or forgery will be charged with a jail term of up to 10 years or a fine with each charge. While giving false information to public servant will be charged with a jail term of up to 2 years or a fine or both.
