A Mercedes-Benz caught fire at the Sime Underpass on Saturday (26 Sept), resulting in the underpass being closed to traffic.
The incident happened in the direction of Lornie Highway, with no injuries reported.
According to footage shared online by SG Road Vigilante, the Mercedes C-Class was seen stopped along the side of the underpass as flames emerged from the vehicle.
Flames and thick smoke seen from Mercedes
Video footage showed flames coming from the sides of the Mercedes while thick smoke poured from its bonnet.
The fire appeared to intensify as the footage continued, with a large plume of smoke rising above the vehicle. Crackling sounds could also be heard.
The approximately 30-second clip showed the burning vehicle positioned near the road shoulder. No other vehicles were visible in the immediate vicinity.
Sime Underpass closed following incident
The Land Transport Authority (LTA) said on X at around 6.42pm that an accident had occurred along the Sime Underpass towards Lornie Highway.
The underpass was subsequently closed while emergency services attended to the incident.
The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said it was alerted to the vehicle fire at about 4.55pm on Saturday.
Firefighters extinguished the blaze using a water jet and a hosereel.
No injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
Motorists travelling through the area may have experienced delays as emergency responders dealt with the burning vehicle and worked to make the road safe for traffic.
