A 34-year-old Myanmar woman who was reported missing in Bangkok has been found dead in a shocking case that has stunned residents in the Thai capital.
Police discovered her dismembered remains inside a plastic storage container in a condominium unit located in the Ratchaprarop area after relatives alerted authorities that they had been unable to contact her for several days.
The victim, who worked at a restaurant in Bangkok’s Khlong Toei district, was last heard from on 9 June before she suddenly went silent.
Relatives Raised Alarm After Losing Contact
Concerned family members filed a missing person report with police and requested officers to check on her residence in Soi Ratchaprarop 14.
When officers from Din Daeng Police Station arrived at the condominium unit accompanied by rescue personnel, they reportedly detected a strong foul odour coming from inside the room.
Upon entering, they discovered a plastic container containing human remains believed to belong to the missing woman.
Authorities said parts of the body were found concealed within the container, while other body parts were not located at the scene.
The remains have since been sent for forensic examination and DNA verification, with an autopsy expected to determine the exact cause of death.
Husband Becomes Key Person Of Interest
Relatives told investigators they suspect the victim’s husband may have been involved in the killing.
According to Thai media reports, the husband, also a Myanmar national, works as a cook at an entertainment venue along Phetchaburi Road.
Family members alleged that the couple had recently experienced relationship problems, with a heated argument reportedly taking place on 5 June.
Investigators are examining whether jealousy may have been a motive behind the crime.
Police also reviewed CCTV footage which allegedly showed a man believed to be the husband leaving the condominium carrying a large suitcase before the gruesome discovery was made.
Police Launch Hunt For Suspect
Forensic officers have been collecting evidence from the condominium unit while detectives continue interviewing neighbours and potential witnesses.
Authorities are also reviewing surveillance footage from surrounding areas as they attempt to track down the individual responsible.
The case remains under active investigation.
Similar Cases Have Shocked Thailand In Recent Years
The incident is the latest in a series of high-profile dismemberment cases reported in Thailand.
Earlier this year, two Russian nationals were arrested in Pattaya after allegedly killing and dismembering another Russian man. The body parts were eventually discovered after a local dog’s actions led authorities to the burial site.
In another widely reported case in 2023, a Polish man was arrested for allegedly murdering and dismembering his Ukrainian girlfriend in Bangkok before attempting to flee the country.
Thai police have yet to announce any formal charges in the latest case as investigations continue.
