A 25-year-old woman who went missing after leaving home to buy food in Chiang Mai, Thailand, was found dead in an irrigation canal the following day.
The woman, identified as Niraphon, was reportedly working as a healthcare worker in Fang District. She was last seen by her father on Oct. 30, when she left home on her motorcycle to purchase food.
According to reports by Khaosod English, CCTV footage captured her riding to a shop near her home before leaving the premises. However, she was never seen reaching the main road.
When her family could no longer contact her, they reported her missing to the authorities.
Body Found Alongside Motorcycle
Police officers and rescue workers subsequently searched the smaller roads and surrounding areas near the shop.
At around 3.30pm on Oct. 31, Niraphon’s body was discovered inside an irrigation canal, approximately 500m from the eatery she had visited.
Her motorcycle was also found in the canal alongside her body.
One possibility raised by investigators was that she might have accidentally ridden her motorcycle into the canal, sustaining injuries that led to her death.
However, this remains an unconfirmed possibility, and the actual cause of death has yet to be established.
Police Investigating Circumstances Surrounding Her Death
Investigators are continuing to piece together what happened before Niraphon disappeared.
According to Khaosod English, police intend to question her relatives, boyfriend and other potential witnesses as part of their investigations.
Additional CCTV footage will also be reviewed to establish her movements after leaving the shop.
For now, authorities have not confirmed whether her death was the result of an accident or involved other circumstances.
Investigations are ongoing as police work to determine how the young woman ended up in the canal.
