The Ministry of Health (MOH), has recently shared a post on their Facebook page advising the public not to self medicate with Ivermectin.
They added that there are some online websites and chat groups that have claimed that ivermectin can be used to cure Covid-19, but MOH has debunked this myths by saying that ivermectin is not a type of anti-viral medication and it is useless in curing or preventing one from getting infected with the virus.
According to MOH, here are some facts about Ivermectin.
DANGEROUS TO SELF-MEDICATE
This is because it is not an anti-viral medicine and it is not approved by the Health Science Authority (HSA) for prevention or cure of Covid-19.
NO SCIENTIFIC EVIDENCE OF EFFECTIVENESS AGAINST COVID-19
It is said by many that ivermectin can be used to cure Covid-19, however the truth is ivermectin is a prescription only medication for treating parasitic worm infections.
NEGATIVE SIDE EFFECTS
There have been reports of people ending up requiring to be hospitalised because of self medicating with ivermectin.
These is because there are negative side effects of taking ivermectin and it includes vomiting, stomach pain, seizures, severe skin rash and liver injury.
MOH urges the public to consult a doctor and seek professional treatment should one have concerns or issues with Covid-19.
