Today, 120 people were fined without wearing masks, and more than 240 people were fined for failing to comply with safety distance measures. There were more offenders than yesterday.
Yesterday, there were more than 80 people and almost 200 people who did not wear a mask and did not observe the safety distance measures.
More than 10 already has already received $1,000 fine
Minister for the Environment and Water Resources, Masagos Zulkifli announced in his Facebook post tonight that the latest banned data revealed that more than 10 people received a $ 1,000 fine for repeated violations of safety distance measures.
He strongly urged the public to stay at home, even if they have to go out, they must wear masks and observe safe distance measures.
This is what Mr Masagos Zulkifli said:
With the current circuit breaker measures, more households are now cooking at home. To prepare meals for our families, it is necessary to head to the supermarkets and markets. However, it is very important that we all do our best to minimise crowding by visiting during off-peak hours, on weekdays, or go to less popular markets.
We saw long queues at several markets again this weekend. At 8am this morning, for instance, there were around 200 people queuing at Geylang Serai Market, and the average waiting time to get into the market was at least 30 mins. Meanwhile, at Tekka Market there was no queue, and at 505 Jurong West, the queue was short and fast-moving, and it took less than 10 minutes to get into the market.
Why am I concerned? Because popular markets continue to be places where people gather over a prolonged period. Old habits die hard. If we let our guard down a moment, it is possible it could result in another COVID-19 infection cluster. Remember that the virus can get through our eyes too, e.g. when we rub our eyes with hands that have touched contaminated surfaces.
We must always be alert in this battle against such a contagious disease. This is why our Enforcement Officers (EOs) and Ambassadors have been vigilant and strict in managing crowds and ensuring safe distancing at these markets. So let’s not lapse; our EOs won’t!
Today, more than 240 face a fine for not complying with safe distancing measures. Another 120 face a fine for not wearing a mask outside their homes. That’s an increase from yesterday. More than 10 will face a fine of $1,000 for repeated breaches of safe distancing measures, including not wearing a mask in public spaces.
I strongly urge everyone to stay home. If you need to go out, do remember to put on a mask and follow safe distancing measures at all times. Do not stay out longer than necessary. Please! This is the best way to protect ourselves and those around us.
