A motorcyclist in Clementi found himself in a harrowing situation when an attempt to hit the emergency brakes at a traffic junction resulted in a serious accident.
The incident, recorded on a dashboard camera of another vehicle that was nearby at the time of the accident and shared on the SG Road Vigilante Facebook group, highlights the dangers associated with abrupt maneuvers on the road.
Details of the Accident
The accident occurred on 18 December at about 8am in the morning, at the junction of Clementi Avenue 6, as reported by the post on the SG Road Vigilante Facebook group.
The video footage reveals that the motorcyclist, approaching the junction, hit the emergency brakes near the stop line when the traffic light turned green for those turning right.
Emergency Brake Mishap
Despite the attempt to stop, the motorcyclist was unable to halt in time, causing the bike to fall and slide across two lanes into oncoming traffic on the opposite lane, with vehicles ploughing through fast and furious.
The sudden hard right turn led the motorcycle to swerve into a divider, colliding with a fence along the way. As the rider and the bike continued sliding into oncoming traffic, a lorry thankfully managed to stop in its tracks after colliding with the motorcycle.
The collision resulted in the rider being flung onto the ground, ultimately slamming into the side of the lorry. The incident caused a temporary halt to the vehicles behind the lorry. In the video footage, the rider is seen lying down on the ground as the video then cuts off.
Response from Authorities
The Singapore Civil Defence Force said that they were alerted to the traffic accident but no further assistance was needed.
