Motorcyclist, 36, Injured After Colliding With Jaywalking Pedestrian In Bukit Batok

A 36-year-old motorcyclist and a 20-year-old pedestrian were taken to hospital after a collision at a junction in Bukit Batok on the morning of July 29.

The accident happened at the junction of Bukit Batok Avenue 1 and Bukit Batok West Avenue 6, where the pedestrian was reportedly attempting to cross the road outside of a designated crossing.

Police said they were alerted to the incident at about 10:10am. Both the pedestrian and the motorcyclist were conscious when they were conveyed to hospital.

Video Captures Moment Of Impact

A video circulating online showed the pedestrian suddenly running across the road before being struck by the oncoming motorcycle.

The impact threw the 36-year-old rider off his motorcycle, sending him tumbling onto the road.

Following the collision, both men remained on the ground for a short period as passers-by rushed over to help.

The pedestrian was later seen limping while being assisted to safety, while the motorcyclist stayed on the road as two members of the public attended to him before emergency services arrived.

Two People Taken To Different Hospitals

The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said it received a call regarding the road traffic accident at about 10:20am.

One casualty was taken to the National University Hospital, while the other was conveyed to Ng Teng Fong General Hospital for treatment.

The police confirmed that the 20-year-old pedestrian is assisting with investigations.

Authorities have not disclosed the extent of either person’s injuries.

Police investigations into the circumstances surrounding the accident are ongoing.

The incident serves as a reminder of the dangers of crossing roads outside designated pedestrian crossings, as well as the risks faced by motorcyclists who may have little time to react when pedestrians unexpectedly enter traffic.
