MRT services broke down along the Thomson-East Coast Line, with SMRT citing a signalling fault for the breakdown that affected train services in both directions throughout the line.
SMRT later issued a statement on Facebook explaining the reasons for the breakdown as well as apologising for the inconvenience.
SMRT’s statement
At around 8.05am this morning (6 July), a signalling fault occurred along the Thomson-East Coast Line affecting train service in both directions throughout the line. There is currently no service in both directions
Commuters on-board the six stalled trains were safely disembarked at their nearest stations. There was full lighting and ventilation in the stalled train while the commuters were on-board.
Our engineers have been deployed to rectify the issue.
Free regular and bridging bus services have been activated as an alternative for commuters.
Additional staff have been deployed to assist with crowd management.
We are sorry to have affected commuters’ peak-hour journeys.
