MSG CIRCULATING ABOUT WORKER DYING FROM BEING OVERWORKED IS FAKE

A police report had been lodged by a local security firm after fake Whatsapp messages started circulating online about one of their workers dying from being overworked.

The hoax message claimed that a Malaysian worker at Cominco, had died after working for 24 hours “cos of over work (SIC)”.

The hoax message also came with a photo of a man lying down on the floor of what appears to be an office.

According to Lianhe Zaobao, Cominco became aware of the false messages circulating on 22 May, and they clarified that the information was fake.

They explained that the man in the photo was a security guard who fell asleep while on duty after taking medicine because of the drowsiness.

A co-worker of the guard later arrived to take over his shift and found the man lying down on the floor, and he then tried to wake him up but to no avail, before asking for help.

Cominco clarified that the guard is alive and well, and that the false news have since spread on numerous platforms and affected their reputation.

An internal investigation has since been launched by the company and a police report has also been made.
