Grandma’s Grandson Pick-Up Ends In Disaster After Porsche Crashes Into Hotel Café
A routine trip to pick up her grandson turned into an expensive and embarrassing incident after a 61-year-old woman allegedly drove her Porsche straight into a hotel café in Penang, Malaysia.
The incident occurred at around 11:47am on June 7 at a hotel and condominium development along Persiaran Gurney. Fortunately, no one was injured despite the luxury vehicle smashing through the entrance of the café and causing significant damage to the premises.
According to local reports, the woman had travelled from Bukit Mertajam and was waiting for her grandson at the building’s lobby area when the accident occurred.
Witnesses said the Porsche suddenly surged forward and crashed through the café entrance, shocking hotel staff and nearby visitors.
Authorities believe the driver may have mistakenly stepped on the accelerator instead of the brake while attempting to move off.
Porsche Stops Only After Slamming Into Café Counter
The vehicle reportedly travelled through the café entrance before finally coming to a stop after colliding with a service counter inside the establishment.
Photographs from the scene showed extensive damage to both the Porsche and the café interior.
The impact was strong enough to deploy all four airbags inside the vehicle. The Porsche also sustained visible damage to multiple sections of the car, including its mirrors and body panels.
A female café employee who was present during the crash was said to be badly shaken by the incident, although she escaped without physical injuries.
The driver reportedly exited the vehicle in a state of panic following the crash but was also unhurt.
At the time of the incident, there were no customers inside the café, preventing what could have been a far more serious situation.
Hotel Seeks Compensation As Café Faces Extended Closure
A representative from the hotel said staff immediately secured the area and prevented members of the public from entering the damaged café.
The establishment is expected to remain closed for an extended period while repairs are carried out and safety assessments are completed.
Management has indicated that compensation will be sought from the driver, although the full cost of the damage has yet to be determined.
Police investigations found no evidence of injuries or fatalities resulting from the incident.
Driver Under Investigation
Police said preliminary investigations suggest the crash was caused by driver error after the woman allegedly pressed the wrong pedal while preparing to leave the lobby area.
The case is currently being investigated under laws relating to careless and inconsiderate driving.
If found guilty, the offence carries penalties that include a possible jail term of up to 12 months and a maximum fine of RM10,000 (approximately S$3,200).
Investigations remain ongoing as authorities work to determine the full circumstances surrounding the unusual crash.
While luxury cars are often associated with performance and prestige, the incident serves as a reminder that even experienced drivers can make costly mistakes behind the wheel, especially when operating unfamiliar vehicles.
