The suspect, identified as Hafizul Harawi, 38, is said to have targeted his pregnant wife, Farah Md Isa, during the incident. However, the shots missed, and one of them struck Farah’s bodyguard instead, causing severe injuries.

Hafizul and Farah are co-owners of a travel agency and are currently in the process of divorcing. Farah had previously filed two police reports against Hafizul for criminal intimidation in 2016 and December 2023. Hafizul also has a criminal record for theft and impersonating a civil servant.

Following these incidents, Farah hired bodyguards for protection. During the shooting incident, she was accompanied by two bodyguards at the airport’s arrival hall, where she was waiting for Umrah pilgrims to return.

Hafizul allegedly approached Farah, threw lit firecrackers at her, and fired two shots, missing both times. The firecrackers injured two passers-by, while one of the bullets hit Farah’s bodyguard, Along, in the abdomen. Along, who was not scheduled to be on duty during the incident, is currently in critical condition.

Hafizul fled the scene immediately after the shooting but was apprehended by Malaysian authorities in Kota Bharu, Kelantan, more than 36 hours later. Preliminary investigations suggest that the shooting was a result of personal issues between Hafizul and Farah.
