M’SIA – THOSE WHO BREACH CHICKEN EXPORT BAN WILL BE JAILED, FINED

Malaysia’s ban on chicken exports will be enforced by on 1 June, according to the Agriculture and Food Industries Ministry (Mafi).

Mafi said in a statement released on 1 June that the ban will be enforced by the Malaysian Quarantine and Inspection Services Department (Maqis), as reported by Bernama.

Mafi also added that all permit approvals to export chicken from 1 June has been cancelled, including permits to export live chicken, round chicken carcasses, chicken-based food products and etcetera.

New permits for these products will also stop being issued.

Enforcement officers from Maqis have also been stationed at exit gates to prevent any attempt to export the chickens.

Those who breach the ban can be jailed up to 6 years or fined up to RM100,000. Repeat offenders face a jail term of up to 7 years and a fine of up to RM150,000.
