A 34-year-old Malaysian man, Krishna Rao Narisama Naidoo, was charged yesterday (16 february) with attempting to bribe a Traffic Police officer with $55.
Rao is facing 2 graft charges and is being accused of offering Sergeant Firhan Abdul Rashed a $50 note and a $5 note.
He was allegedly trying to get the officer to not investigate him for a traffic incident.
The alleged bribery attempt took place last year on 21 November, near Pioneer Road.
According to the Corrupt Practices Investigation Bureau (CPIB), Sergeant Firhan had rejected Rao’s offer and referred the case to them (CPIB).
Rao is set to return to court on 2 March and is currently out on a bail of $7,000.
Upon conviction, he faces a fine of up to $100,000 and a jail term of up to 5 years, for each of the offences.
