Turns out, every day she purposely get off the bus two stops before her usual stop, just to save a bit of money — and not for herself, okay — but for her boyfriend’s gambling debt. The girl, let’s call her Ah Mei, came to Singapore last year to work in retail. Pay not high, but she very hardworking one. She say she love her boyfriend, Ah Hock, who still in JB, but always come over to visit her and “borrow money” here and there. Recently, Ah Hock kena gambling problem, owe people money until jialat liao.
Ah Mei told her colleague that her monthly salary barely enough to cover rent, food, and send money back to help her family. But still, she wanna help Ah Hock. So hor, instead of alighting at her usual bus stop near her rental room, she will walk two extra bus stops just to save 10 cents each trip. She say, “Morning 10 cents, night another 10 cents, one month got $6. Enough to buy one meal for him leh.”

Ah Mei’s colleagues all tell her to be careful, but she don’t listen. She say love is about sacrifice. Every time he say he need to “roll back” his luck, she believe. Even when he ask her to take cash advance from her credit card, she cry, but still do. She say if she don’t help, who will?
But one day, her world collapse. She saw him at Bugis Junction, holding hands with another girl. Not just any girl — the girl was carrying a LV bag, and Ah Mei recognise it immediately. It was the same bag her BF show her online and say, “Wah, this bag nice hor, too bad no money.” Turns out he had money — just not for Ah Mei.

Some even say they want to donate to her — not for the gambling debt hor — but to help her realise she deserve better.
Ah Mei say she knows her bf not perfect, but she hope he will change. She believe if she sacrifice now, one day he will wake up. But netizens not so hopeful.
