The incident took place at Singapore Life Church along Prinsep Street on the morning of May 3. According to the Singapore Police Force, officers received a call for assistance at around 9:10am regarding a disturbance at the church premises.

By the time police officers arrived, the suspect had reportedly left the scene. Preliminary investigations later established that the man had allegedly slapped multiple individuals before fleeing the area.

Authorities stated that a 66-year-old woman suffered injuries near her eye after allegedly being struck by the suspect. She was reportedly bleeding when officers arrived and was later conveyed conscious to hospital for medical treatment.

Suspect Allegedly Known To Church

Police investigations revealed that the man was allegedly known to the church and had reportedly caused nuisance there on previous occasions.

The suspect was subsequently arrested for public nuisance offences. Investigations are currently ongoing, and the authorities have not disclosed whether additional charges may be considered.

The case has attracted attention online, particularly due to the involvement of an elderly victim and the location of the alleged assault inside a place of worship. Incidents involving public disturbances and violent behaviour in religious venues remain relatively uncommon in Singapore, where strict law enforcement and public safety regulations are heavily emphasised.

Singapore’s criminal law treats assault-related offences seriously, especially when vulnerable individuals such as senior citizens are involved. Depending on the severity of injuries and the outcome of investigations, offenders may face penalties including fines, imprisonment, or both.

Concerns Over Safety In Public Spaces

The incident has also sparked conversations surrounding safety and mental wellness support in public and community spaces. Churches and religious organisations often serve elderly worshippers and families, making security and emergency response measures increasingly important.

In recent years, Singapore has seen growing discussions around public safety technology, healthcare support systems, and legal protection for vulnerable individuals. These topics continue to draw attention among policymakers, insurers, and organisations involved in community safety and risk management.

Police have advised members of the public to remain calm and cooperative during investigations. More details are expected to emerge as inquiries continue.

The Singapore Police Force has not released further information regarding the identities of the other alleged victims involved in the incident.
