M’SIAN TENANTS IN SG UNHAPPY AS LANDLORD GET UTILITY REBATE, EXPECT DISCOUNTS

A post on Facebook became a hot topic of discussion after many Malaysians who were looking for a flat in Singapore claimed that they should be entitled to the rebate as they are tenants paying for the utilities as well.

The post wrote:

Calling all Malaysians, please don’t write your budget out for room or house rent, just know it in your heart. . How can you negotiate the price like this?? You will become a “water fish” and be slaughtered by others! Your money is really easy to make!

I managed to secure a room between $550 to $650.

Singapore government is giving home owners utilities rebates and GST vouchers. They already made money if they rent out at 650.

Certain homeowners selfishly retain rebates without passing on any discounts to their tenants. When utility bills surge, they promptly lay blame on the tenants or give excuse to raise rent or impose penalty.

Everyone, please keep the prices down, and all the greedy homeowners will stop shouting at random prices. Next year room rate is going to plunge as more BTOs are ready. When RTS is in operation, Singapore rent rate is going to plunge like hell.

In addition, now is not the time of the epidemic, so don’t let them lead the way. . Please cooperate! Thank you!

Netizens fightback:

  • Utility rebates and GST vouchers given by government are separate issues from rental income.
  • You sound to have a sense of entitlement to what the owners have. Owners take back their own $$ as those are the taxes they pay and what are you spouting to malign them of being selfish?
  • and rental market is not you alone can decide.. it’s market demand and supply.. if you cannot afford a room, just balik kampung to your own country, don’t come sg kpkb.. or stay in jb better lah…
  • I doubtful lol. 600 can’t even get a single room this isn’t 2004 era again LMAO.
  • Monthly mortgage can’t even cover with rental income. Only cheapskate talks like this. Utilities bill increase as year passes by, town council, getting free wifi, even furniture is provided (bed/Wardrobe) unlike 10 years ago some places rent out empty room only. GST just increase by 1 percent so definitely daily expenses increases too. Even the price of buying or selling HDB /condo has increased alot.
