M’SIAN WORKER THOUGHT S’PORE WORKERS WAS ‘UPTIGHT’ UNTIL HE STARTED WORKING

In the diverse landscape of Singapore, where cultures intertwine seamlessly, one Malaysian’s journey at an American MNC has shattered preconceived notions. As a newcomer, expectations were colored by stereotypes, but the reality turned out to be a delightful surprise.

Arriving with a set of preconceived notions about Singaporeans being reserved, rude, and possibly prejudiced, the Malaysian employee quickly discovered that these assumptions were far from the truth. Contrary to expectations, every encounter in the company’s hallways and public spaces was met with smiles, breaking the stereotype of Singaporeans being tight-lipped.

Here is the story:

This might not be a complaint you’re looking for but I would like to share my perspective here as a Malaysian working here for more than 1 year at an American MNC (yes I know quite new right?!)

My primary impression before started was that Singaporean was tight, rude, never smile, and racist. Being a minority ( I guess you can know my race) was also making me worried that I will be unable to perform religious tasks without making few eyes turned.

But boy oh boy was I wrong. Not a single individual that I met in the company that never smile in the hallway (or sometimes in the public places). My colleagus are super tolerant. People are used to holding door for others. I’ve heard of more than 10 sorry’s daily from others who might think they inconvenience you ( eventhough they’re not).

Food is great, public transport are even greater! And I am also smiling wide at every end of the month (due to the currency of course).

Of course there are some issues but what country exists without issues right?. I would say thay being able to contribute here is a blessing and I am solely grateful for the people here. Keep going great guys!

Conclusion: In the heart of Singapore, a Malaysian’s perspective shifted from skepticism to appreciation. The workplace culture, the warmth of the people, the culinary adventures, and the financial benefits collectively shaped an enriching experience. As the journey continues, the Malaysian employee looks forward to contributing further to the vibrant tapestry of Singapore’s professional landscape. Keep going great, Singapore!
