Minister of State for Home Affairs and Nee Soon GRC MP, Muhammad Faishal Ibrahim, addressed the incident that happened at Khatib Central were a woman was injured by a wild boar.
He said that he visited Yishun Park, where the authorities and volunteers were searching for the wild board, and that he has visited the injured resident from the incident.
He also offered some tips should anyone encounter a wild boar.
Here is what he said
I made a trip to Yishun Park this morning to check in on the team – made up of staff from NParks, PA, TC and Police, and volunteers – working on the search operation for the wild boar.
The NParks team has confirmed the sighting of the wild boar in Yishun Park and that search is still underway. As such, Yishun Park will remain closed until further notice.
The strength of our community in Nee Soon is the silver lining of this incident.
I appreciate how quickly the different agencies, NParks, PA, Police and Town Council, and our volunteers came together to ensure the safety of our residents. While the team carries out the search operations, staff from PA and volunteers help to redirect residents to minimize any inconvenience caused by the closing of the park. The team onsite also shared that residents have been very understanding of the situation.
If you encounter the wild boar, please remember the following:
1) Remain calm and move slowly away from the animal.
2) Keep a safe distance and do not corner or provoke the animal.
3) Please call NParks’ Animal Response Centre at 1800-476-1600 if you spot the wild boar.
I also visited my resident who was injured by the wild boar at Khatib Central. I am glad that she is recovering well with the support from her husband and family.
