MUM SCARES SON, TELL HIM IF HE DOESN’T BEHAVE, SHE WILL SELL HIM TO KARANG GUNI

What are some of the lies your parents told you when you were younger to stop bad habits?

As a kid, I love to snack on things like chips. My favourite was Twisties curry or tomato flavoured.

My dad got real angry and said that if I keep eating Twisties, my stomach will combust and catch fire one day because Twisties are like charcoal, and is flammable.

He took a piece of Twisties from my packet and used a lighter on it. It caught on fire and turned black.

Being younger and didn’t know much about science back then (kindergarten or lower primary), I got scared and stopped eating Twisties since.

To make sure I don’t swallow fruit seeds apart from watermelons, my mum told me that if I ingest seeds from a fruit,a fruit tree will grow out from my belly button.

Please share what are some of the hilarious lies your parents told you in your childhood! Would be nice to know how absurd some of these are

  1. she made me have a bob haircut throughout my childhood cuz it’s easier for her to manage, less time to shampoo n no need for hair ties
her reason for not allowing me to grow my hair out? she told me i’m allergic to long hair styles
  2. If don’t finish all the food on my plate, my partner face next time will look like the leftovers on the plate.
Heng I lick my plate clean, cause my partner looks damn good hehe.
  3. It’s not really a ‘lie’, but to keep 4-year-old me from always asking for a sip of sweet coffee whenever she makes herself one at noon, my mom once gave me two tiny particles of ground coffee and let me taste them. After experiencing its bitterness, I immediately lost interest in the mysterious drink.
  4. If i do something bad they will sell me to garang guni
  5. My friend grew up thinking that she was a boy for the first 10 years or so of her life because her parents gave her a crew cut (easier to bathe), wore her elder brother’s clothes (to save money), told her she was a boy (to prevent people in the workplace from molesting/taking advantage of her as they always brought her to work with them) and that she should behave like a boy because certain behaviors were unmanly.
Around 11 or so, they told her that she was actually a girl, started letting her keep her hair long, wear her elder sister’s clothes (again, to save money), explained to her the reasons why and then told her that certain behaviors needed to stop because it was not befitting a girl.
Luckily she adjusted well, but sometimes the behaviors she exhibits makes me think that the male behaviors she learnt never really left her
