A female police officer was attacked and insulted by a 22-year-old man and his 57-year-old mother when she arrived at their residence in Sembawang on June 5.
The incident involved the pair throwing a piece of furniture at the officer, as well as various other items such as seven flower pots, four knives, and washing machine parts, from their apartment, according to Shin Min Daily News.
In response to media inquiries, the Singapore Police Force confirmed that they received a distress call at 2:19 PM on Monday, reporting the incident at Block 415 Sembawang Drive.
The mother-son duo was subsequently apprehended for causing harm to a public servant and using insulting language towards a public servant. The 22-year-old man was additionally arrested for engaging in reckless behaviour. The police are currently conducting investigations.
Furthermore, the man also targeted a medical staff member by throwing a sharp object at them when they arrived at his apartment, accompanied by colleagues, to transport him to a medical facility.
The medical staff member, who requested anonymity, described the incident to Shin Min, stating that they sustained a minor injury to the lower neck. They managed to escape further harm by quickly seeking assistance from the police, while their colleague used the elevator.
Although the attack on the medical staff member took place, it did not appear to subdue the man’s aggressive behaviour. Prior to the police’s arrival, he continued to scream and throw various objects from his apartment, including seven flower pots, four knives, and washing machine parts, all within a span of five minutes.
The situation only de-escalated when the police entered the premises, forcefully apprehending the mother-son pair who had initially refused to cooperate.
A neighbour residing on the same floor as the mother-son duo revealed that the man has autism. The neighbour described the man’s mother as friendly, despite her limited English proficiency. However, she noticed a change in her appearance over the past month, as she appeared fatigued and worn out.
The 49-year-old neighbour also mentioned that the domestic helper residing in her household observed broken furniture appearing in front of the mother-son duo’s unit, including a washing machine and a shelf, starting from last month.
