It was supposed to be the trip of a lifetime. Ever since I can remember, I had been dreaming of taking a big vacation to a far-off destination.

So when my best friend, who I shall call Cheapskate, suggested we go on a big trip together, I was overjoyed. We had been talking about it for months, planning where we were going to go, what we were going to do, and how much money we were going to spend.

Not willing to spend money, everything also want save

But the longer we talked about it, the more I started to realize that Cheapskate was not willing to spend any money. He was insistent on going on a budget and not splurging on anything.

While I understand that money can be tight, I was trying to make this trip special, and I was worried that Cheapskate’s inability to spend money was going to ruin it.

I tried to explain to Cheapskate that if we wanted to have a good time, we were going to have to spend some money. I suggested that we stay in nice hotels, eat at good restaurants, and do other activities that weren’t free.

But Cheapskate was not having it. He was determined to find the cheapest option for everything.

His cheapskate attitude ruin the fun of a holiday

Unfortunately, it didn’t take long for me to realize that Cheapskate’s cheapness was going to ruin our trip. Everywhere we went, he was looking for the cheapest option. Instead of staying in nice hotels, he would search for the cheapest one.

Instead of going to nice restaurants, he would find the cheapest one. Instead of going on exciting excursions, he would find the cheapest one. It was like he was on a mission to find ways to save money, no matter what.

The final straw came when Cheapskate suggested that we take a budget flight with many transits instead taking a full service plane direct to our destination.

It was clear that he wasn’t interested in having a good time; he was just interested in saving money.

Needless to say, the trip was a disaster. We ended up staying in cheap hotels, eating at cheap restaurants, and doing boring activities. It felt like everything we did was a chore, and I was constantly worried that Cheapskate was going to find a way to save even more money.

In the end, I wish I had never suggested the trip in the first place. I had hoped for a fun adventure, but instead, I got a cheap trip that was anything but fun.
