Sibei sian, I really cannot take it anymore. I need to vent before I blast my boss in the next meeting.
My boss is an FT (from across the bridge), and when I interviewed, he was all “I’m a chill boss, as long as work is done I don’t care what you do.” 180-degree change the moment I signed the letter. Now? This guy is the King of Calculative.
I go lunch also must report. If I take 1 hour 15 minutes because the Amoy queue was long? He says “You go too long, better take half-day leave.” Simisai?! It’s a lunch break, not a prison sentence. Whether I work from home or office, he want to chap (interfere) in every small thing. Even for WFH, he insists we must be physically in Singapore. If the work is getting done and I’m responsive, what does it matter if I’m in SG, JB, or China? The logic is zero.
The worst part? He is the ultimate bootlicker. During online meetings with our big bosses in the UK, he suddenly becomes “Mr. Visible.” Always hao lian about the things “he” did in Singapore, but we all know who actually did the heavy lifting.
If you do work too fast, he gets insecure and scared you’ll take his credit. If you do it at a normal pace to ensure quality, he thinks you’re useless and slow. You literally cannot win. And don’t even get me started on OT. We stay back late to fix his mess, but when we want to take off-day? He acts like the compensation is coming directly out of his own bank account.
Honestly, why are people like this? You come here to work, we welcome you, but why bring this toxic, “eye-power” culture here? It’s 2026—if the KPIs are met and the business is are running, just let us breathe. Anyone else stuck with a boss who acts like he owns your soul just because he has a title?
When I just join the company a colleague was quitting and he said “You will know What I mean in the future, Give me extra $10K I also won’t stay” I did not know what he meant and now I understand.
I ever F him one time jialat before, then he was nice for a while but a leopard never change it’s spots, now all the calculative ah gua pattern all come again. I think need him one time good one. But I think forget it la, I change job better. Salary lesser never mind, a good boss is more important.
People Don’t Leave Bad Jobs, They Leave Bad Managers.
TL;DR: Boss promised freedom, gave me a leash instead. Micromanages lunch, gatekeeps off-days, and wayang to UK bosses like nobody’s business. Sian.
