Local activist Gilbert Goh shared how a needy family received a brand new fridge to replace their old rusty one, thanks to the help of some donors.
Here is what he said
Thanks to our donors, we could replace the defective hand-me-down rusty fridge of a needy household living in government-subsidized housing with a brand-new one costing close to $500.
We also donated our Ramadan fund of $100 so she can purchase food and necessities during the fasting period.
For the record, as much as we prefer to purchase brand-new white goods for needy households, we welcome usable second-hand fridge, TV, washing machine among others so that everyone can play a part in our community to bless one another.
We also need to respect our needy folks so that they receive the best from us but not some run-down defective hand-me-down items.
Thus, our first-choice preference is still brand-new items and we treasure any donors who want to bless the needy community with such purchases.
The average cost of brand-new items are:-
1. Mattress – $30 to $50
2. Fan standing – $40 to $60
3. TV 21-in – $200 to $250
4. Fridge 2-door – $400 to $500
5. Washing machine – $300 to $400
Brand-new items inspires respect and hopefully this incentivizes the needy to work hard for a better future for themselves.
