NEIGHBOUR FROM HELL ALLEGEDLY THROWS CURRY & EGGS OUTSIDE HOUGANG MAN’S HOME

An 81-year-old HDB resident living in Hougang is complaining that his neighbour, who lives one floor below him, allegedly throw eggs, flour and curry outside his home.

The resident, Mr Liu who has been living in Block 693 Hougang Street 61 for more than 30 years, spoke to Shin Min Daily News and said that he didn’t have any problems with his neighbours until August last year.

The culprit is allegedly the son of a neighbour who lives directly below Liu’s home, who claimed that Liu was making loud noises from his home.

The man then allegedly retaliated by throwing eggs and flour outside the elderly man’s home.

Liu told SMDN that he had brought up the issue with the man’s parents, who agreed that he should report the incident to the police.

Following that, Liu then installed a CCTV camera outside his home worth about $500 to collect evidence after approaching the town council for help, and the vandalism then stopped for a while.

However, the acts then soon resumed and on 20 April, the man allegedly showed up outside Liu’s home at about 4am to throw eggs outside his unit, as well as kicking his shoes that were left outside.

The man then returned at 8am once again to throw even more eggs.

Things then got even worse on 22 April when the man returned once again to throw eggs and pour curry on Liu’s window, with Liu saying that the eggs would then rot and generate a foul odour because of the heat, which makes it hard to remove from his home.

He added that he will be submitting the evidence that he had gathered to the police.

Liu shared that he had previously spoken to the man’s parents, and they told him to report it to the police – Liu had wanted to get their understanding on the situation as well as settle the issue amicably.

They had been neighbours for about 30 years.

He also wanted to seek the alleged culprit’s understanding on the latter’s perceived noise complaints, explaining that the sounds came from him cooking or when his grandchildren were running around in the home.

He added that his granddaughters have since grown up and no longer run around the house, and he also doesn’t cook very often at home anymore, but the man is still claiming that he can still hear “chopping noises” when the old man hasn’t done anything.

Reporters from Shin Min visited the HDB block in question and interviewed the father of the alleged culprit, 76-year-old Mr Wu, who explained that his son had been involved with bad company when he was young, resulting in him being jobless for more than 10 years.

Wu added that his son was also previously jailed for 3 years back in 2015 for drug offences, and was released in 2018.

He said that he had hoped his son’s jail term would change him for the better, but he became even more temperamental after his release and would often ask his parents for money and break things at home.

He added that it is too late for him to change his son’s behaviour, and hopes that the police will arrest his son and stop him from his wayward ways, adding that he intends to cut ties with his son because he had bought shame to him.
