I often see the news report on neighbourhood hair salons who often take advantage of elderly people by selling them expensive hair treatment packages that they don’t need.
This is an issue that has been going on for years and it seems like no one is doing anything about it.
The problem is that these hair salons often target the elderly because they know they are more likely to be vulnerable and not know how to protect themselves from being taken advantage of.
The hair salons will often offer a package deal that includes multiple treatments and products, but in reality, the elderly person only needs one or two of the treatments. They then end up spending hundreds or thousands of dollars on something they don’t really need.
Pressure and scare tactics on elderly
The hair salon employees almost always use high-pressure sales tactics to try and get the elderly person to buy the package deal. They will often say things like, “This is the only way you will be able to get the results you want,” or “This package is the only way to get the best value for your money.” They also often use scare tactics to make the elderly person think they will have serious problems if they don’t buy the package.
This kind of behaviour is unethical and wrong, but unfortunately, there is very little that can be done to stop it. The elderly person is usually in a vulnerable position and often feels like they have no choice but to buy the package.
The only way to really stop this problem is for the government to step in and pass laws that protect the elderly from being taken advantage of. They could make it illegal for hair salons to use high-pressure sales tactics and scare tactics when selling to the elderly. They could also make it illegal for hair salons to offer package deals that include treatments and products that the elderly person does not need.
It is also important for the elderly to be educated about their rights and how to protect themselves from being taken advantage of. They should be aware of the common tactics that hair salons use to get them to buy the package deals and they should be aware of the laws that protect them.
It is important for people to report any suspicious behaviour by hair salons to the authorities. If they see a hair salon using high-pressure sales tactics or offering package deals that include treatments and products that the elderly person doesn’t need, they should report it to the police or to a consumer protection agency.
Unfortunately, the problem of neighbourhood hair salons taking advantage of the elderly is not going away anytime soon. But, if we come together and take action, we can make sure that the elderly are protected and that these unethical practices are stopped.
