Recently my department has changed a new boss.
Now all of you probably have heard of dress codes in the office but my boss implemented a ‘shoes code’ in our department as well.
Males are only allowed to wear full black or full brown shoes and as much as possible it should be leather shoes. Females are not allowed to wear open-toe footwear.
He says our department faces the public from time to time and the type of shoes we wear will affect our overall image as a whole.
So it started to get some of us in the department thinking if it is right for your boss to dictate your footwear when you go to work.
I mean leather shoes are more expensive than normal shoes and who says open-toe footwears are not professional?
It’s just his own perception of things and it seems that he is enforcing this perception of his down on us. Some of us feel that it is his strategy of subtly forcing us to dress more formally as we will match our clothing to the shoes we wear.
But to me it doesn’t feel right to dictate the ‘shoes code’ of an employee as long as he/she is not wearing slippers/sandals to work right?

- It really depends what kind of office, but leathers shoes is kind of a standard if your working in an office environment IF requires long sleeve shirts.
