The installation of the new onboard unit (OBU) will begin in the second half of 2021. The replacement will be made free of charge. Initially, the installation of the OBU is supposed to start by the end of this year. The plan was pushed back due to the ongoing pandemic. Therefore the installation phase will start in the second half of 2021 over a period of 18 months.

With the change of the new system, LTA states that there won’t be any change in the current pricing framework and charging locations. The only changes are to replace the current gantries with a smaller and slimmer version.

The OBU will come with new features such as real-time traffic updates and information on the nearby school zone as well as sliver zone.

The UBO has 2 different designs to fit the needs of car and motorcycle respectively. It is said to be compatible with the current ERP system where road users can continue to Nets FlashPay, Ezlink or credit card for payment.
