NEW LEGAL AGE FOR SMOKING IN 2020 IS 20 YEARS OLD

According to a media release, a new legal age has been set for smokers. The minimum age for smoking will be 20-years-old.

It has increased from 19-years-old to 20-years-old for 2020 and eventually in year 2021 the legal smoking age will be raised to 21-years-old.

According to the ministry of health raising the legal age for smoking is to prevent youths from picking up smoking. Anyone underage offenders who are caught smoking can be fined up to S$300.

Anyone who helps underage smokers buy cigarettes can be fined up to S$2,500

Retailers who sell cigarettes can face a ban on tobacco license and a fine of up to S5,000.
