Singapore degrees not recognized outside of Asia?
Have been applying for jobs in the US and UK primarily and 8/10 times, I get an email asking me what university am I from and whether if it’s accredited in the local database.
And what’s even more surprising is them not recognizing other universities in Singapore as I’ve heard from friends whom applied for overseas job applications.
I’m from NTU and my friend from SMU similarly had the same experience where the employer or HR would email us asking whether if our University is accredited in their local database.
The only exception were friends from NUS. Everyone else I know from NTU and almost all the time from SMU, we get the same “what university is that?”, Question thrown around.
Can anyone enlighten me?

- At times u need to have a 3rd party to evaluate your degree, my experience with Canada was I need to do an ECA with WES and they will give your qualification a equality towards their accepted standard. It can be done for US too. I did that for my PR application.

Most of these Ang Mos can’t even locate Singapore on the map - Oh really? At least for UK. it seems the nation UK recognises NUS and NTU graduates as high potential individuals.
But u r right in a way since SMU got neglected for some reason but I guess that’s because on QS NUS and NTU r in the top 20 all the time and SMU is just…non-existent although we all know it’s well known to be a rly good university….only on Singapore grounds.
