This triggered an investigation by the school and the resident has since been ordered to remove the equipment, stating that it is for the safety of the residents.

Netizens are calling it “Free electricity mining” and while some people are criticising the students for taking advantage of the hostel facilities others say it’s a stroke of genius.

By the photo of the mining rig, netizens say that if all of them are GTX3060s the student should be making about USD$17.29 to USD$20 a day. The best part is the cost is only the machines, there are no running cost.

However, the school said that the device consumes a lot of electricity and generates high level of heat which can potentially be a fire hazard for the residents.
