NUS released a statement on Facebook, acknowledging the feedback they have received regarding Yin, and wrote that they stood “strongly against any form of misconduct”.

The school said that he is currently suspended and is banned from campus, pending ongoing disciplinary actions.

NUS also added that: “Students who have breached NUS Statutes and Regulations face severe sanctions, including suspension and expulsion.”

Response to Yin’s punishment has been negative, with an online petition with more than 9,000 signatures started, calling for harsher punishments.
