A video was uploaded on Saturday by a driver who witnesses officers opening drain covers and pulling out cartons of cigarettes at Geylang Lorong 12.

This kind of concealment technique has been used by contraband cigarette peddlers for a long time in Geylang.
It is believed they do this so that if the peddlers are arrested by the authorities they can avoid paying a hefty fine by feigning ignorance on the cigarettes and claim that the cigarettes found in the drains do not belong to them.
Sometimes it is hidden in dustbins as well.
