A screenshot of a scam on what appears to be on the Lalamove delivery app has recently resurfaced again, leading the netizen who posted the screenshot online to warn others that such scams are still ongoing.
The netizen also wonders if people still fall prey to such scams.
Promises a ‘tip’ for remitting money
The scams would come in the form of delivery requests on the Lalamove platform, and would often start from a random location to where the ‘scammer’ says he is at.
The scammer would then include a note to give instructions to the scam victim.
In the note included in the delivery request, the scammer would ask the delivery personnel to go to any Western Union outlet to make a remittance of a certain amount and then after making the remittance to meet at another location to get the promised ‘tip’.
The tip typically would be a few hundred dollars, which to many would be considered a good sum for an easy ‘job’.
After going to the scammer’s location to get the promised ‘tip’, victims would then realise that no one is there to give them the tip and that is when they find out that they have been a victim of a scam.
People who fall prey to these would usually lose a few hundred dollars instead, depending on the amount that the remit for these scammers.
