Ong posted a heartfelt post on Facebook, paying tribute to his time at the Ministry of Education (MOE).
He shared that he learnt a lot from the teachers, academics, educators, staff, parents and students that he has worked together with to bring in reforms to “a system that is already internationally well-regarded, to make it even better.”
Ong gave Lawrence Wong, his successor, a shoutout as well, he wrote: “Lawrence Wong will lead the next phase of this journey, to make education even more fulfilling and ewmpowering for our students, and enhance the strength of society and communities.”
Ong also included a heartwarming photo of a letter that he received from a Primary 3 student, as well as his written reply in the form of a card.
The student wrote that his/her mother is a teacher and that she leaves home early in the morning and comes home late at night, adding that “she is very busy and has no time to play with me (sic)”.
Ong replied, sharing that the student’s mother is “making a difference in the future of children in Singapore.”
